Storage Tips
Preparation
Do yourself a huge favor and prep for moving to storage. Getting everything boxed and dismantled ahead of moving day makes the actual move as simple as loading on one end and unloading at your storage unit. When prepping:

Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and with small engines.

Use trash cans to store shovels, rakes, brooms…

Treat wood and metal surfaces for storage.

Label Everything! If there’s any doubt in your mind what you’re looking at or where it came from, label it. For boxes that might be stacked or stored on shelves, label the top and side.

Keep all the parts of dismantled furniture/items together. Put those nuts and bolts in a baggie and tape it to the bed you just dismantled. Don’t put those bolts in your pocket! We know you want to but don’t do it! 😉

When packing, please note the following are not allowed at Owensboro Mini Storage: firearms, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, live animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquid and fuels, toxic materials and any other item as specified by state law.
At the Storage Unit
Pack your Storage Unit from the walls in placing larger unneeded items first. Use medium size items or boxes as filler and don’t be afraid to store upwards whenever possible. Place items you may need quick access to into your storage unit last. By following this trick, you’ll create an organized storage unit with an aisle and quick access to any items you might need access to while in storage. When Storing:

Try not to put boxes on the floor. (They’re going to rot real quick) Use pallets, skids or shelfs, if possible.

Use protective covers.

Place all labeled boxes and containers so labels are visible.

Keep all the parts of dismantled furniture/items together. If you put those bolts for the dismantled bed in your pocket earlier, this is your last chance to put them back before they’re lost forever. Just sayin… 😉
